Objectives
- Students will be able to measure the mass of seeds and produce on the triple beam balance.
- Students will be able to grow seedlings in the classroom and transplant them into the garden.
- Students will be able to collect seeds from plants in the Fall and plant their seeds in the Spring.
- Students will know the characteristics of perennial, biennial, and annual plants.
- Students will be able to explain the reason animals (such as spiders, chipmonks, worns, birds, pill bugs, and caterpillars) are found in a garden.
- Students will know that not all parts of every plant are edible.
- Students will be able to explain why plants need "space".
- Students will be able to work in groups in order to accomplish goals.
- Students will learn how to properly use the tools of a gardener.
Goals
- Hands-on Outdoor Biology Classroom
- Connect students with the natural world
- Help us meet our curricular goals
- Grow fresh produce for kids to eat (in classes, in the cafeteria, and at home)
- Provide produce to the Family and Consumer Science classes and to the school cafeteria
- Fresh air and exercise
